The Unforeseen Threat: Ch 08 – Looming Shadows

Bleeea-duooh-aaahhhaaa… Bleeea- dooouh-ooouh…. Ooo-ahh-baa-haa…

The data droid continued to transfer it’s recordings into the lab’s mainframe computer. Within seconds there was video-playback on screen.

The video displayed a darkly armored man snapping the neck of Liam-wil Turner onboard the Pallarbeck. The dark man had never touched him – it was a Sith. As Turner fell to the floor the Sith spun around as a whistle was heard to the side. Now General Sparzz could be seen holding a prototype biometric launcher on his shoulder. Sparzz fired the weapon and it sent the Sith flying into a command console.

Sparzz walked over to the dark-armored Sith and they conversed for a moment. Behind Sparzz an object could be seen levitating and in an instant it flipped in the air and shot out a long crimson blade, severing the general’s arms. Seconds later the Sith could be seen jumping out of the command console, staggering to his feet.

“That’s quite the toy Sparzz, but no weapon is significant next to the power of the darkside,” the Sith shouted out just before he walked over towards the recording unit. As he pressed a button, the recording equipment shut down.

“The weapon is still not ready.” A man in a white lab coat stated as he switched off the monitor. “We need to find a way to cut them off from the force.”

“With all due respect Master Henaat, we just don’t have that kind of technology,” a scientist tried to reason. “How can you stop a Sith from channeling the force? All they have to do is think it, and they can do anything.”

“Well if we knew that, we wouldn’t be here my friend,” Master Henaat stated as he turned back towards his lab team. Henaat had a young face, but his long silver hair looked as though it was colored by the wisdom of many years. His hair flowed just past his shoulders, but on top it was spiked like a crown. The style gave him a look as though he was a genius, and that his knowledge was the greatest weapon one could possess.

“My friends,” he said as he extended his arms, “you are not like the Jedi & the Sith, or even the commandos. One could say, that you are mere mortals, but that does not mean you do not play a major part in this war. Anything that has advanced this war has come from you, the scientists. When the republic needed a way to heal troops in battle, we engineered the bacta packs. When they needed a larger radius attack, we gave them the EMP cannon. If it was not for us, especially this lab, they wouldn’t even have their advanced cortosis armor. All these technologies that the republic sought, and believed was impossible, we gave them. So when they ask us to design a weapon targeted for use against the Sith, and you say it’s impossible, I say it is just another day at the office for us.”

The team of scientists went wild with applause as their leader encouraged them from the video platform.

“Study whatever this little guy has for us,” gesturing to the data droid. “When they ask for the impossible, it’s our job to give it to them, so we will find a way.”

The scientists continued their applause as Henaat finished his speech and stepped down from the platform. As he began to walk through the scientists, they went back to their work stations. Henaat made his way through the crowd, and headed to the sole door occupying the rear wall of the lab. Swiping his security key through the reader, the door opened with a “swish” before Henaat, and he was granted access into his personal study. As he walked to the back of the office he placed his hands on his desk and rested for a moment.

They want to cut a Sith off from the force? How do they expect me to do that. All they have to do is think something and… “All they have to do is think it!” Master Henaat jumped back from his desk and ran to one of his many book shelves in the study. He scanned the shelf and quickly pulled out a thick spine, hide bound book, and threw it on the desk. He quickly opened the tomb and began searching the pages rapidly. “All they have to do is think it,” he repeated with a grin. Continue reading

The unforeseen Threat: Ch 06- The Pallarbeck Part IV

Tenaz could feel the dark side flowing through him again, he was still unable to move his body, but he knew that didn’t mean he was completely vulnerable any more for he had his most fearsome weapon back – his mind. As he focused on the force, drawing on the dark side energies all around him, it seemed as though Sparzz had begun to ramble on in slow motion. Tenaz reached out with his mind and lifted his lightsaber up off the ground. He positioned the hilt to the side of Sparzz, just out of the man’s sight.

Sparzz finally stopped rambling and pulled his blade back for the kill. Just as Sparzz was sending his blade back towards Tenaz’s throat, Tenaz spun his saber in the air, and ignited it halfway through the flip. The blade ignited just in time to cut Sparzz’s arms clear off, stopping the man’s knife from penetrating Tenaz’s throat.

“Ahhh!” Sparzz shouted out as his forearms dropped from the rest of his body. The large man fell to the floor, burying his arms into his body. The man’s pain and suffering empowered Tenaz, and he could begin to feel parts of his body again.

Turning his fingers in, he began to make fists and then release them. As he continued to draw on the dark side, Tenaz felt more parts of his body quickly coming back to life. White-knuckling his fists, he summoned up Sparzz’s immense pain, and channeled it into power.

Using his new power source, Tenaz catapulted himself up out of the circuit board prison. As he landed on his feet he staggered for a moment, but then caught his balance as the biometric weapon’s effects wore off.

“That’s quite the toy Sparzz,” Sparzz continued to weep in pain on the floor, “but no weapon is significant next to the power of the dark side.” In the upper corner of his eye, Tenaz could see a red blink coming from one of the computer stations. Looking up, Tenaz could see it was the sign of an incoming video comm. message.

“Dam. The command panel. The communications jam must have been deactivated with the explosion down there.” Pondering whether to leave it or not, he felt as though something was compelling him to answer. “Why don’t you just stay right here General.” Sparzz simply continued to bury his arms in pain.

Tenaz walked over to the station and could see the image of a women dressed in beige Mandalorian armor on the comm. screen. She wore the Mandalorian skull on her shoulder, unlike Sparzz’s people who wore it across their chests, so Tenaz was unsure how to approach the situation. If she was a member of the NMO, then by revealing himself to her, he could expose the entire order to the public eye. If she was a true Mandalorian however, then perhaps Sparzz had come here to hunt her and her clan down, just as he had done to Tenaz.

The woman’s helmet was removed and Tenaz could clearly see her face. The mysterious woman had long brown hair that dropped far past her shoulders. Her lips were plump with a peachy tint to them. Her face seemed to have not one battle scar; she looked as though she was more of a Diathim of Iego rather than a human. All this beauty was complimented by her deep green eyes – eyes that had surely helped her bend people to her will.

As beautiful as the woman was, she wore a face that displayed her integrity. Tenaz could see her talking into the comm., but could hear nothing. Feeling as though she was not in league with Sparzz and the NMO, he reached over to the flashing light, and opened the comm. channel.

“Sparzz! I know that’s your ship! Sparzz! Dammit Sparzz, don’t do this!” The woman shouted into her comm. until the image of Tenaz appeared on screen.

“The General is a little…preoccupied right now,” Tenaz responded.

“Preoccupied?! You tell that ugly piece of wampa feces to come down here like a man!”

“I’m sorry miss, but I don’t think the general will be able to join you.” Tenaz grabbed the comm. camera and positioned it over to Sparzz. “Like I said, he’s a little preoccupied.” Continue reading

The Unforeseen Threat: Ch 05 – The Pallarbeck: Part III

The remaining nine assault teams onboard the Pallarbeck now raced through the halls towards Bravo team’s (Captain Bossa’s team) last know heading. The teams searched every room along the way, and with each team consisting of ten men apiece they moved rather quickly throughout the ship. To insure the intruder would not escape, each team had taken a different route – sealing off all paths of escape.

As the teams moved closer and closer to Bravo team’s location their paths began to cross. Now there was three assault teams each equipped with thirty fully armed commandos; Alpha, Delta, and Eco squads.

Finishing up his check, a commando of Alpha squad exited a room to return to the hallway when he saw a figure at the end.

“Captain, on your nine! Sector seven!” he shouted to the commanding officer. Turning quickly, the captain saw a man running down the hall.

“Open fire men!” the captain ordered as the blaster bolts began to fly. From down the hall the intruder sent a shockwave towards their direction, just strong enough to knock a few commandos off their feet and into other commandos.

As soon as they were up on their feet again, they could see the intruder now running back down the hall.

“We’ve got him on the run men! Follow him to his grave!” The captain shouted and the commandos immediately ran down the hall in pursuit of the man. “There is nowhere to hide scum!”

As the captain ran down the hall with his commandos, he knew even if his squad didn’t catch the intruder one of the other teams would. All the escapes were cut off, the intruder would soon be dead.

Turning the corner the captain and his team entered what seemed like a rancor’s playpen. The room was filed with nearly twenty massacred republic troops all lying in a pool of blood and limbs. Two commandos lay completely shattered within the walls of the room, three more were decapitated, several others were cut in half, and one body seemed as though it was ripped apart with brute force alone.

“What could possibly do this much damage?” the captain said softly. Turning his head he could hear the sound of armor clanking together down one of the halls connecting to the carnage-filled room. Within seconds another commando squad entered the room, all in as much shock as the captain had been when he had first entered.

Just as the second team was entering the room, the third squad made their way in.

“Delta squad!? Eco squad!? What are you all doing? Where is the intruder!?” the captain demanded.

“We followed him down the hall to here sir!” the leader of Delta squad  proudly responded.

“Same here sir! Where did he go? He couldn’t have got past us, there’s no other way out!” Eco squad’s leader said. Suddenly all three doors closed behind the commando squads.

“What happened!?” The captain of Alpha squad shouted to the commandos. “Get these doors open!” Continue reading

The Unforeseen Threat: Ch 04 – The Pallarbeck: Part II

Ten commandos were now making their way down the halls of the Pallarbeck towards the scan team’s last known location.

“Captain Bossa, what’s going on with our communications?”

“Not sure Jones, could just be interference from the planet.”

“Any chance someone could have disabled them Captain?”

“There haven’t been any alarms triggered so it doesn’t seem likely. Just stay on alert anyway.”

“Yes captain.”

The team continued down the halls, until they were stopped by a sealed blast door.

Jones turned to Captain Bossa  “Captain, why is this closed?”

“Not sure, but this doesn’t seem right anymore. Jones, open this door! Team, entry position four!” Jones headed to the control panel of the door and the other commandos headed to opposite sides of the door and awaited the opening. Bossa waited nervously beside the door, fearful of whatever might be waiting for them on the other side.

The blast doors opened abruptly. Captain Bossa turned slightly to peek inside. The Captain saw only one thing, which left him dumb founded. There was a single trooper standing at attention with his arms behind his back in the center of the room, in nothing but his underwear.

“Trooper,” Captain Bossa shouted, “What’s your operating number?!”

The trooper responded after a short pause, “0638, sir!”

0638? “Norrington?”

“Yes sir.”

“Stand down men, let’s move in.” The team backed down from their posts and entered the room. “What happened to your clothes soldier?”

“I’m afraid my team members thought this would be funny sir.”

“Your teammates have a strange sense of humor soldier; we started thinking something happened to you all. Where is your team anyway?” Norrington started to laugh at the question.

“Hahahahaha…hmmph…hmm…hmph. Sorry sir. My team? Right, they’re all dead sir.”

“What did you say soldier!?” Bossa asked in shock, thinking he had heard wrong.

“Sir,” Jones shouted, “by the command panels!” Jones pointed towards the panels, where he could see the body of a much too still trooper.

“Jones, check that out!” Bossa now feared for his team’s safety as Jones made his way towards the panels. “I’m going to ask you one more time Norrington. What happened to your team!?”

“Sir, with all due respect, I already told you. They’re dead. D-E-A-D, dead! Just like Jones here.” Jones quickly looked back to Norrington when he mentioned his name. In one swift motion, Norrington removed his hands from behind his back, revealing his blaster, and raised it up to shoot Jones square in the chest.

“Jones!” Captain Bossa yelled. The team opened fire on Norrington as if on reflex and quickly put him down. The captain looked over to Norrington’s lifeless body, “What the hell Norrington?” as if the blast filled corpse might answer. Just then one of the commandos alongside Bossa cried out in agony. The commandos turned to see a blade of crimson light impaled through the shrieking commando’s chest. The blast doors behind the commandos were instantly sealed by an unknown force as the backstabbed commando fell before them, revealing a dark cloaked figure holding a lightsaber. The eight remaining commandos were now trapped in the sealed room with a Sith.

A moment passed, and Captain Bossa gave the order, “Focus all fire on the Sith! Don’t let him escape!”

The commandos raised their guns to the Sith, and they opened fire.

The Unforeseen Threat: Ch 03 – The Pallarbeck: Part I

As Tenaz sat on the floor of the cockpit in meditation, the ship’s autopilot guided itself through the predetermined hyperspace route. Tenaz could feel himself getting closer and closer to Sparzz’s location. In his meditation, Tenaz could clearly see Sparzz’s ship, The Pallarbeck, orbiting above Dagobah’s atmosphere. It was the same ship that had destroyed his home on Dxun, and now it was time for revenge.

The stars surrounding the hyperspace route began to slow, and the ship came out of lightspeed into the Dagobah system. Tenaz came out of his meditation, and went over to the pilot’s seat. He was far enough away from the Pallarbeck that the ship would not have picked him up on their scanners when he exited lightspeed. Enabling the ship’s cloaking device, Tenaz made his way towards the massive battle ship.

Tenaz needed to keep his presence unknown for as long as possible, so blasting through the hull wasn’t an option. He would need to find another way in. As he examined the exterior of the ship, Tenaz could see a small air duct which he would be able to dock with and enter the ship. Tenaz set the ship to auto-dock with the air duct, and threw his robe on over his armor. Tenaz tightly gripped his lightsaber as he eagerly waited for the docking process to finish. Once the ship had completed the docking sequence, the ship’s escape hatch opened and Tenaz began his crawl through the duct.

The air duct was extremely small and far beyond dark, however reaching out with the force Tenaz was able to see every turn in the duct. He could sense an exit to the metal maze not too far from his location, and began to crawl in that direction.

It was difficult to crawl through the small air duct with his armor on, but he was able to make it to an air vent just above a large room on board the ship. He could see that the room below him had three exits, two of which were closed, and was occupied by seven republic troopers. The troopers appeared as though they were fully equipped and ready to defend the ship at all costs, but when Tenaz reached out with the force he could sense that they were still beginners, possibly fresh out of training. He had hoped for a challenge, but they would serve as a good warm up for the larger confrontation he knew he would soon have to face.
